The most famous Cape Verdean island for hiking trips is Santo Antao. But did you know that Sao Vicente also offers a wide range of undiscovered walking tracks? There are various hiking paths around Mindelo city to explore the rougher inlands and the dazzling coastline. Calhau & Viana volcano crater (7 km) Experience the local way of transport and go to Calhau village by Hiace, the public bus. Hike along the rough coastline and reach the top of the inactive volcano at 163 meters. Enjoy the views on the uninhabited island Santa Luzia and descend down the crater. After lunch you’ll visit Sao Vicente’s only agricultural area in Ribeira de Calhau before returning to Mindelo.
