Trek in a fairytale valley!
Santo Antão is the most famous Cape Verdean island for hiking trips. Its tropical valleys, unusual vegetation and picturesque mountain villages give it its typical image. During the hike you’ll learn a lot about Cape Verdean culture, enjoy breathtaking viewpoints and visit unspoiled places.

1. Xoxo, Vinha waterfall and Lombo de Pico (8 km)
2. Chã de Matos, Xoxo, Vinha waterfall and Lombo de Pico (12km)
1. From a little path uphill the valley close to Xoxo you’ll walk towards the Vinha waterfall. Get closer to the famous rock Lombo de Pico and walk through the sugarcane plantations all the way to Rabo Curto. This track has many curves and twists leading from one beautiful landscape onto the next. Lunch is served in a small, familiar restaurant.
2. From the top of the valley at Chã de Matos you'll start the descend into Ribeira da Torre. Pass small hike tracks and villages far away from civilization and watch the sceneries and vegetation change. In the village of Xoxo you'll continue with the 1. track.
⚠️ Choose which of the 2 options you prefer. Note that these tracks might not be suitable for people with vertigo. They are a bit hidden and take some know-how to explore. A guide is definitely recommended. The Vinha waterfall is only reachable by a small track next to the rocks.
Good to know: If you only stay 1 day on Santo Antao we will pick you up by the harbour and bring you back in time for the return ferry. We advise you to take the ferry at 08:00 in Mindelo. Please note that ferry tickets are not included.
